Nicole Richie was “pleasantly surprised” to be released after serving 82 minutes of her four-day jail sentence for a second DUI conviction, her lawyer said Friday.

“Nicole was aware that most people with sentences similar to hers are booked and released in a matter of hours and she was hoping to be treated like everyone else,” attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said in a statement. “Nevertheless, she was prepared to serve her entire four-day sentence had the Sheriff’s Department required her to do so.”

On Thursday, accompanied by her boyfriend Joel Madden as well as Holley, the five-months pregnant Richie entered the jail in Lynwood, Calif., at 3:15 p.m. She was processed into the system and released at 4:37 p.m.

“Of course, she was pleasantly surprised to be released so quickly,” said Holley.

Nicole Richie served 82 minutes of a four-day sentence for DUI on Thursday due to jail overcrowding, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.

Accompanied by her lawyer and boyfriend Joel Madden, the five-months pregnant Richie entered the jail in Lynwood, Calif., at 3:15 p.m. for booking, listed at 5′1″ and 105 lbs. She was processed into the system and released at 4:37 p.m., a sheriff’s statement said.

“Miss Richie was cooperative during the process,” the statement said.

The statement said she was released “based on her sentence and federal court guidelines.” Under the current sheriff’s policy, non-violent female offenders sentenced to 30 days or less are booked and released within 12 hours.

Richie was “treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence,” the statement said.

With boyfriend Joel Madden by her side, a five-months pregnant Nicole Richie takes her pooches to the California Animal Hospital in L.A. on Thursday.

Nicole and Joel are reportedly planning to honeymoon in Australia, where they conceived their unborn baby. The couple conceived a child during a trip Down Under earlier this year, when they spent time there around the Australian MTV Awards. And insiders claim they’re hoping to go back following a top secret wedding next month. The aides insist the new Mr. and Mrs. Madden will spend quality time together before the rocker’s band Good Charlotte plays a string of Australian concerts in mid-October. A source says, “They fell in love with Australia when they were there in April and they can’t wait to go back and honeymoon there.”

It was just Nicole Richie having lunch with her manager, Benny Medina, and two other associates.

The mama-to-be had a late breakfast for two, downing some eggs, bacon and juice before heading out.

As she left—with baby bump clearly visible—a few LAPD officers stepped in, pushing the crowd of photographers back to make way for the Simple star. But it seems like Nic would have been just fine on her own.

“Take all the pictures you want,” Nicole was heard telling the crowd of paps. “Just back off!”

Annie Lee and Garrett Bauman (above, left and right) would pitch their Ted Lapidus vintage sunglasses to customers by reminding them that celebrity socialite Nicole Richie sports the same shades. So they saw the incredible irony when Richie and fiance Joel Madden of Good Charlotte, stopped by their Georgetown vintage shop, Annie Creamcheese, last week. The purchase of the day? A $275 pair of brown-tinted Ted Lapidus sunglasses.

Madden, who had visited the high-end vintage shop on M Street twice before, decided to bring with his newly pregnant fiancée while in town for a concert at the Clarendon Ballroom. In addition to the sunglasses, Richie also took home a $199 off-white, Courreges scarf.

The couple were “very down-to-earth,” said Lee who pitched the store’s accessories to Richie. Richie, Bauman explained, “wasn’t in the mood to look at dresses because her body is changing,” but she was drawn to the accessories. Madden meanwhile bought a “grandpa-like cardigan sweater,” along with a small fedora hat and a few t-shirts, but nothing brand name.

After 20 minutes in the store, a photograph with a customer shoppers and a promise by Richie to visit Lee and Bauman’s new store location in Las Vegas, the couple made their way out the door.

It seems that Nicole Richie has postponed walking down the aisle with beau Joel Madden till after the birth of their first child.

A source close to the socialite said that Richie doesn’t want her child to think that they ‘rushed to get marriage because she got pregnant’.

“She said she doesn’t want the baby to one day grow up and think she and Joel rushed to get married just because she got pregnant,” E! Online quoted the source, as saying.

The source said that the couple will marry ‘on their own schedule’.

“She doesn’t want to get married just to say she did it before the baby was born. She wants to do it on their own schedule. And it will be done because they are in love, not because they are up against some deadline,” the source added.

The friend added that the 26-year-old wants time to enjoy planning her wedding.

“It sounded like it could be stressful pulling it all together so quickly. And Nicole said she just started thinking she’d like time to really enjoy planning her wedding,” the friend said.

Lionel Richie has made sure Nicole Richie has a splendid home in which to bring up her baby.

Lionel surprised his daughter and her rocker boyfriend, Joel Madden, with a $2 million townhouse in the Century City area of Los Angeles, The Enquirer reports.

“Lionel was overjoyed when Nicole told him that she was pregnant, and he’s been searching for the perfect baby gift,” said an insider.

“And boy did he find a whopper!” Lionel has been supportive of Nicole’s efforts to beat her eating disorder and drug addictions, and he’s thrilled she’s found love with a stand-up guy like Joel. To show how proud he is that Nicole is making positive changes in her life, Lionel went searching for a new home for the couple. On July 28, just days before Nicole and Joel publicly announced the pregnancy he purchased the 3-bedroom, 3-bath home from former “NYPD Blue” star, Dennis Franz, and his wife, Joanie.

“Lionel was going to wait and surprise the couple with the home closer to the birth date,” continued the insider.

“But he was so deeply touched by the way Nicole spoke so lovingly of him during the interview (with Diane Sawyer), that he sprang the gift on them just hours after seeing the TV appearance.”

A tearful Lionel told Nicole and Joel about their baby present in a phone call shortly after the interview aired.

“They were overwhelmed,” disclosed the insider. “All three of them cried happy tears over the phone. Lionel has vowed that even though he wasn’t around much as a parent, he’s going to be a dynamite granddaddy.”
