Nicole Richie pleaded guilty to DUI and was sentenced to four days in jail on Friday in a Glendale, Calif., courthouse.
She also agreed to serve a three-year probation term, and must enroll in an alcohol education program. She was also fined $2,048.
During the hearing, Los Angeles County Commissioner Steven Lubell admonished Richie, saying: “Someone could’ve gotten killed. You need to understand that driving under the influence is extremely dangerous.”
Richie was given the option of serving her time in a paid city jail, which is seen as a cushier facility than a county jail. She was given no surrender date, but must complete her jail time before Sept. 28.
Richie, with her hair pulled back and wearing a loose-fitting black dress, showed up 10 minutes early for her 8:30 a.m. (PST) hearing, arm-in-arm with her boyfriend, Joel Madden, who was also dressed in all black.
Prosecutor Carolina Lugo said outside the courtroom that Richie’s reported (and unconfirmed) pregnancy had nothing to do with the plea deal. “That was not discussed and we have no information about that.”

Pregnant and soon-to-be on trial Nicole Richie has spent her summer so far on media blackout.
Next week, however, the Simple Life star will finally come out of hiding for an interview with Diane Sawyer. In three segments set to air Aug. 2 on Good Morning America and Aug. 3 on Good Morning America and 20/20, Sawyer will finally have the opportunity to ask Richie on our behalf, “What is going on with you?!”
The interview will mark something of a mini-comeback for the usually media-saturated Richie. On tour recently with boyfriend Joel Madden’s band, Good Charlotte, she has kept a low-profile, eating at less-than-glamorous locations like a Chili’s in upstate New York, and slouching in her car outside suburban malls where her man was performing to avoid being seen.
Some topics that we hope Sawyer will cover? Richie’s August 16 court date for her December 2006 DUI arrest, where, as a repeat offender, she could face 90 days to one year in jail. And of course, that growing baby bump of hers remains uncommented on by Richie or Madden. Could it be time to announce the happy news?

Nicole Richie is three months pregnant and, according to a report set for publication, now faces the stunning question: Who’s the Daddy?
The National Enquirer will report that there were FOUR men in Nicole’s life before she found out she was pregnant and sources reveal exclusively to mag which ones may take a paternity test and how this situation is about to explode.
The 25-year-old first sparked pregnancy rumours when she was photographed outside a reproductive clinic in April.
A source said: “Nicole recently underwent a series of tests, including blood and urine screenings, which confirmed she is pregnant.” The super-slim star is said to be going on a special diet for the sake of her unborn child.
Richie has been out shopping for baby products. ‘The Simple Life’ star has been on two massive sprees at hip Hollywood baby boutique Petit Tresor in the last two weeks.
On her most recent trip to the store, Nicole bought two Born Out of Necessity diaper bags and a collection of toys, including a stuffed bear, a mobile and a play mat.

With all the rumors floating around that Nicole Richie is pregnant, the socialite’s dad Lionel Richie says he’s not so sure the ‘confirmed reports’ are true.
It sounds like Lionel Richie doesn’t think his daughter Nicole is with child, despite our friends at TMZ independently confirming that she’s got a bun in the oven.
According to Splash News, Lionel told Access Hollywood: “I feel that if she doesn’t call me it’s not really happening,”
“I’m telling you, to this day she has not formally announced to me [that she's pregnant].”
“I’ve had more people telling me congratulations and I don’t know.”

Nicole Richie’s lawyer forced yet another delay in court Tuesday of her pending DUI trial.
“The trial will not happen (Wednesday)” as scheduled, said Jane Robison, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office. “Richie’s attorney filed a motion … stating that their key witness, a drug expert, was unavailable for trial.”
Although Los Angeles County Commissioner Steven Lubell denied Richie’s attorney’s request for a new trial start date of Aug. 5, he ordered both sides to court Wednesday to argue over why the trial should be postponed again. Regardless of the outcome, the hearing postpones the trial at least a day, Robison says.
Richie does not have to attend the trial. She has reportedly traveled to Canada to watch boyfriend Joel Madden’s band Good Charlotte peform Tuesday night in Calgary.
Richie’s lawyer did not respond to requests for comment.

After several weeks of Nicole Richie hiding her stomach from photographers, the is-she-or-isn’t-she-rumors can be put to rest: Us has confirmed via multiple sources that Richie is more than 12 weeks pregnant with her and boyfriend Joel Madden’s first child.
“She is extremely excited right now,†a source close to the star tells Us.
Richie, 25, shared the good news with her mom Brenda, and close friends like Mischa Barton, in early May, adds the Richie pal, after a pregnancy test came up positive.
And the pregnancy isn’t the only cause for celebration.
A source says Madden, 28, along with a few friends and his twin brother Benji, recently went shopping for an engagement ring.
And the twins’ older brother Josh Madden tells Us, “Nicole is awesome. I would love for them to get married!â€
Both families are thrilled about the couple’s baby joy: “Everyone’s happy, everyone’s good, everyone’s getting along†a source tells Us.
But Nicole can’t hide her bump forever. The Simple Life star is due in court on July 11 to answer DUI charges stemming from her December 2006 arrest. If found guilty, she faces 90 days to one year in jail because of a previous DUI conviction in 2003.
