Nicole Richie has hit out at her image as the face of eating disorders, insisting she has never starved herself. The 25-year-old socialite is tired of stories about her rumored eating disorders and hates the fact her slender frame is always held up as undesirable in the media. Richie, who sought counseling for help to gain weight last year, insists she’s just naturally thin. She tells U.S. magazine Nylon, “It’s really sad how obsessed America is with weight. It’s sick. “I’ve never gone a day without putting food in my mouth. I’ve never sewn my mouth shut. I’ve never gone on a liquid diet. “So I want to know why I’m the face for a problem.”

Nicole Richie has been mum about rumors that she’s expecting a child with her boyfriend of six months, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden.

But in the new issue of Nylon magazine, every other topic is decidedly on limits as Richie, 25, opens up about her celebrity status, her drug past and whether she’s a role model.

“I don’t have a clue why I’m famous,” Richie tells the magazine, blaming the media for her omnipresence. “I didn’t make myself famous…You’re doing it. I think people just want to say, ‘Oh, she doesn’t have a job she doesn’t do anything.’ They get off on that. But I do have a job, like everyone else.”

In 2003, Richie entered rehab following a heroin-possession arrest. “When I pictured heroin, I pictured some crazy crackhead with no shoes under a bridge,” she says in the interview. “You never think that is going to be you. And it never was me. I was never under a bridge, and I always had shoes.”

Despite a “chaotic” childhood in which she says her parents gave her too much freedom, Richie does not regret past mistakes. As for setting an example for the one million fans that tune into The Simple Life every week, “I don’t walk around pretending that I’m perfect, so I don’t think anyone should hold me to that,” she says. “The dangerous thing is that there are 16 -, 17 -, 18 –year-olds that people consider to be role models. I’m so happy I wasn’t famous back then…You’d think I was the f—king devil.”

TMZ was in court moments ago when Nicole Richie’s lawyer announced her client will try and beat the rap. A trial date was set for July 11.

Richie was arrested last December after she was driving the wrong way on an L.A. freeway. Cops say she confessed that she had been smoking pot and had taken Vicodin.

The stakes are high for Richie. She has a prior DUI and if she’s convicted this time around she faces a minimum 5 days in the pokey. Worst case scenario for Richie — one year in the slammer.

Nicole Richie is hoping her pregnancy will keep her out of prison, according to US reports.

It has been claimed that the socialite and The Simple Life star is expecting her first child with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden.

“Nicole is kind of hoping her pregnancy will keep her out of jail,” a pal told the New York Post.

Richie faces a spell behind bars after she admitted driving her car under the influence of painkillers and marijuana.

A representative for Richie did not return calls.

The Simple Life stars are renowned for their wild partying but the 26-year-old said they actually prefer quiet nights in.

Nicole told Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “We are both, believe it or not, homebodies.

“I’m not lying! I’ll go to her house, she’ll go to mine. I wear black sweats and Paris wears pink ones.

“She makes spaghetti or grilled cheese sandwiches, Paris is like the ‘Iron Chef’, and we watch Lost.”

The adopted daughter of Lionel Richie, who is a reformed heroin addict, reveals she once dreamed of going to theatre school and becoming a Broadway star.

Nicole said: “My plan was not to be a celebrity. My plan was to be a singer and an entertainer.

“I wanted to go to NYU, major in music theatre, do Broadway, and come out with an album.

“Unfortunately I started f***ing up when I was in my teens.

“I never thought ‘The Simple Life’ would take on a life of its own. And the fame came before the success.”

Richie refused to talk about the ring. Meanwhile, Madden was “overly attentive to her - keeping his arm around her all night - and repeatedly asked her if she was OK.” The cozy couple ate everything on their plates, lobster salad and lamb, but refused all alcohol, which our snarky spy called “a first for her.”
