Nicole Richie has spoken out to defend her jail-bound pal Paris Hilton, insisting the hotel heiress’ impending prison sentence was “really unfair”. Hilton has to report to Los Angeles’ Century Regional Detention Center by 5 June to start serving her sentence for violating her probation following her 2006 drink-driving arrest.

But Nicole believes Paris was “exploited” and is now fearing for her own fate - she is due to answer her own charges of driving under the influence later this year. She says, “Of course Paris is scared. She was treated really unfair. “I don’t know if she necessarily could have done anything to stop that. I think sometimes people just get exploited and I hope that doesn’t happen to me… I don’t think there’s anything I can do to stop that.” Richie’s charges stem from a December (06) incident when she was arrested and booked for DUI in Los Angeles.

While Nicole treated herself to a manicure inside a Beverly Hills nail salon yesterday, police quickly surrounded her car and gave her a ticket for parking her car in a passenger loading zone. After getting her nails done, Nicole emerged from the salon and couldn’t locate her keys.

After tracing her steps, an irritated Nicole eventually found a backup set, started her car and used her windshield wipers in a failed attempt to get rid of the parking ticket.

Nicole had a little “oops” moment on Monday night. Richie, who was driving her boyfriend’s BMW, stopped at a gas station on La Cienega Blvd and Holloway Dr. in Los Angeles, and as she left she accidentally backed into another customer’s Honda convertible.

Richie was reportedly mortified by the little mishap, and went to “hug it out” with the other car owner.

Nicole Richie’s rep has sent the following statement to Us Weekly, explaining Nicole’s recent (funny) e-mail invite:

“This invitation was sent via email to her friends who understand that she was responding in a joking manner to the constant untruths printed about her in the media. Her reference to Memorial Day was in no way meant to offend anyone but was simply an expression of her distaste for the current situation.”

Nicole Richie is being criticized, by the tabloids and bloggers, for an email she sent out to her friends, inviting them to her Memorial Day barbecue. In the e-mail Nicole writes: “there will be a scale at the front door. No girls over 100 pounds allowed in. Start starving yourself now.”

The e-mail was obtained by In Touch Weekly and has everyone talking, including Dr. Joyce Brothers (who does not treat Nicole) who says that she thinks Nicole is “thumbing her nose at the people in rehab. It’s a huge form of acting out.”

Personally I don’t think it is a big deal at all. Nicole is obviously joking, she herself has been through a lot with the tabloids and it’s just meant as a harmless little joke, on an invite only meant for her friends to see.

Nicole and Mischa were spotted on Sunday afternoon doing some shopping at a local supermarket. The two bought loads of food and drinks for their Memorial Day barbecue.

Nicole and good friend Mischa Barton were spotted a few days ago leaving the Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf in Hollywood. The two used to spend a lot of time together, and suddenly they were never seen in public together for a long time, but now they are back to hanging out — good to see.

Nicole Richie has reportedly refused to visit her sick mother in the hospital.

The diminutive TV star is said to have fallen out with her adoptive mother Brenda, and has not visited her despite her recent hysterectomy.

A source told the New York Post newspaper: “Brenda was in the hospital. She had a hysterectomy and Nicole hasn’t visited her since. The two have not been getting along lately.”

According to reports, Nicole’s rift with Brenda could be the cause of “The Simple Life” star’s recent personal problems. The 25-year-old has reportedly been seeing a therapist to try and combat her low weight.
