When I was younger, everybody I knew had clothes lines in their backyards on which they would hang their laundry on to dry. But as I got older, the days of clothes lines became a distant memory to me because I got busy and started doing my laundry quickly at the laundromat. In a way, clothes lines became old-fashioned. However, I was recently reminded of them when I saw my neighbor hanging things up on a clothes line in her backyard. I didn’t think anyone did that anymore! I got to thinking about it and realized what a simple, genius invention it was though. Clothes lines definitely keep your energy bill down and they help to preserve your clothing. Dryers can cause clothing to shrink or fade and they dilute that great fresh clean clothing scent. Maybe with the recent “green” movement and the economic recession, clothes lines will come back in style. They save you money and they are better for the environment!
